Jess and Matt’s story starts way back in high school. Matt had a quiet crush on Jessica during physics class, but they never had a chance to connect. Years later, fate stepped in through a mutual friend and a single tweet. Matt posted lyrics from Jessica’s favorite band, and she noticed immediately. When she liked the tweet, Matt saw his chance—and messaged her. That simple moment turned into something incredible: a first date, falling in love, building careers, seeing the world, and now, planning a wedding.
Before they say “I do” this summer, we headed out for their engagement session—one of my favorite ways to get to know couples and see how they interact when it’s just the two of them. For Jess and Matt, it was easy. Their connection was effortless, natural, and full of laughter.
We started in Eastern Market (you know how much I adore that place). The energy, the colors, the texture—it always brings out something special. Then we made our way to Belle Isle. The light was perfect. Summer still lingered in the trees, and just when we thought the evening couldn’t get better, the sky lit up with one of those sunsets that makes you pause. Detroit’s skyline never disappoints, and paired with Jess and Matt’s energy, it was magic.
