Mary and Sean’s Masonic Temple Wedding In Detroit

July 6, 2017

I didn’t realize it at the time but Mary and Sean’s choice of engagement session location told me everything about them as a couple. People choose their engagement session for a lot of reasons, most of the time it’s some type of reflection of who they are. Other times they just really like the pretty location. For this groom and bride-to-be it was definitely a reflection. The Law Quad had a majestic, old world feel to it that spoke to who they are.

So, of course, it suddenly made perfect sense when Mary shared this with me…

“Sean and I like to think that we were born in the wrong era. We enjoy classic cars, oldies, antiquing and anything vintage. In fact, we purchased a 130 year old Victorian home (that we like to call our haunted mansion) and our little family includes two sassy black cats. It is only fitting that our wedding would take place in an old 1920’s Detroit building. Through it all, good times and bad, I couldn’t ask for a better partner to walk through life with.”

Given what I learned about Mary and Sean, it came as no surprise that they chose the Masonic Temple in Detroit as their venue. The Masonic is known for its old world architecture and stunning design. I literally could not imagine these two people being married anywhere else in the world.

The wedding arrived on a chilly day in November and was a flurry of activity all day long. One of my favorite moments of the day was when the Bride and Groom had their first look in the Jack White Theatre. It’s one of Mary’s favorite places and it was absolutely wonderful. Because the Masonic is so massive and offers so many different looks we captured images all over the inside and outside of the building. I can’t get over some of the beautiful crystal chandeliers, rich dark woods, and beautiful designs. It gave off this beautiful fairytale vibe that was definitely fitting for a wedding. Plus, how great was it that their ceremony site happened to match their wedding colors?!

It was almost like fate, like it was meant to be.

When it was time for the reception the room was brimming with people who loved them. The favors were small limoncello, a fact that made my husband jealous when I told him about it later. Limoncello is a lemon based drink and very Mediterranean (and my husband is part Italian). He would have liked to assist me for this one, something I’ll keep in mind if I ever need his help later on.

The Bride and Groom decided to have a live band for their reception and they couldn’t have made a better choice. You guys, this band was fantastic! The sound of live music kept people dancing all night long – it was even hard for me to leave!

A wedding day is one part bride and groom, one part family and friends, and one part incredible vendors.
