The Grand Hotel is the sort of venue I imagine a little girl dreams of as the backdrop to her dream wedding. Its regal structure, gorgeous interior design, and lush grounds made it a magical place for Megan and Michael’s wedding day.
It sits on Mackinac Island, a special place of its own. The island is bright and festive, showcasing the best parts of Northern Michigan. The streets are filled with carriages, ice cream parlors, fudge shops, and adorable boutiques.
The wedding day started bright and early at the Grand Hotel. As the two got ready at the hotel, they exchanged gifts. As Michael was opening his gift from Megan, he was floored. With the most sincere, kindest words, he said that he knew that there wasn’t anything Megan would do that wasn’t perfect. What a guy!
Finally, it was time for the first look on the porch. When Michael saw his bride for the first time, the photos and killer video from the Neskes proved he was head over heels for his bride. After the first look, we hurried off to catch our boat back to the mainland and headed to the church. They were married at the lovely Cross in the Woods in Indian River by Fr. John Jaddou. The ceremony was beautiful.
To celebrate the union, we boarded the Sip ‘N Sail Mackinac for food, dancing, and an extended trip under the Mackinac Bridge.
We finally disembarked to take photos at the Grand Hotel’s Secret Garden. While taking portraits of his new bride, I handed Michael the camera. I got to enjoy watching Megan light up while Michael doted on her. One of the photos below is one that I DID NOT take! Michael did pretty great 🙂
The evening ended with dinner overlooking the bridge by candlelight. It was pure Michigan perfection.
There were several details that made the day extra special:
A family friend created a beautiful dress hanger from Megan’s mother’s and grandmother’s wedding dresses.
Megan and Michael couldn’t bring their pups, but Megan made sure to include them throughout the day. She had their likeness created for the cake. (Their dogs also sent them on an excursion later in the week off of Mackinaw–could someone tell me where to find pets like that?)
Congratulations, Michael and Megan!
(A special shoutout to my husband who came with me and carted my gear around. He doesn’t normally get out to weddings with me, but he admitted that he would happily assist me on Mackinac any time. Not sure if it was the fudge or the views, but anyway, it was a day for the books!)
