Despite the heat, this summer engagement session at Maybury State Park turned out to be one of my favorites.
It’s been a brutally hot summer—perfect for beach days, yes, but not exactly ideal for portraits. So, I’ll admit it: I was a little nervous heading into Jess and Kyle’s session. Humidity and cameras don’t always get along. But these two? They made it work. Actually, they made it look good.
Jess and Kyle brought the kind of energy that makes any setting feel relaxed, fun, and meaningful. We met at Maybury State Park, one of Michigan’s hidden gems, and simply wandered together. The natural light, tall trees, and tucked-away trails gave us so much to work with. If you haven’t been there yet, put it on your list—I’ll definitely be back.
What stood out the most, though, wasn’t the location or even the soft golden light—it was them. Jess and Kyle are genuinely enjoying life together, soaking in this season of engagement, and excited about what’s to come. There’s something beautiful about witnessing two people on the edge of a new chapter. Their joy? Contagious. Their connection? Real.
It’s couples like this that remind me why I love capturing love stories. They’re not just planning a wedding—they’re preparing for a marriage. And something tells me theirs is going to be a great one.
Here’s to summer light, state park trails, and love that thrives—even in 90% humidity.
