For a few months, we had been planning what Kristen and Ben’s engagement session would be like. And I get excited for these sessions.
As a photographer, the engagement session is important. It is really cool to document a couple as they are and where they feel most at ease. For Kristen and Ben, it was their hometown. Ben grew up just a few houses down from Kristen’s very best friend…. but they didn’t officially meet until high school. It was as if it was meant to be. So we chose to have their engagement session right in Grosse Ile so we could capture them in the locations that meant the most to them. You will see more on that in a minute.
The second reason is sort of for me. I love to get to know my couples really well before their wedding day. It’s a real pleasure to just be able to experience who they are as people and just how they love each other. And really, their wedding is even more fun (and yes, it makes creative photos on a wedding day so much more).
But with these two high school sweethearts and MSU alum, you can see I will have no trouble creating some beautiful images on their wedding day.
First a few shots bleeding green and white…
And here are some of my favorite photos. Is it because they are adorable? Or that I love cobalt blue? Or is it that we waited out the passing rainstorm and enjoyed a rainbow on the horizon as we shot? Yup. All of those things.
But, my very favorite part of this entire shoot…
….getting to capture the sunset from Kristen’s parent’s dock. The exact spot that Ben proposed. Yes. It was exactly as awesome as you would think.
