Spring had just started to show up in Detroit, and Amanda and Chris’s wedding was the perfect way to kick off the season. It was small, relaxed, and full of the kind of real, emotional moments that stick with you.
They got married at J’adore in Eastern Market, with only their closest people around—but the love in the room was anything but small. Amanda got ready in a historic Boston-Edison home, surrounded by her bridesmaids, her parents, and her pup Louis (who also made an appearance during hair and makeup for one last hug).
After the ceremony, Amanda and Chris had a quiet moment to themselves—in the bathroom, of all places. It was spontaneous, a little messy, and totally them. They didn’t even close the door, so friends and family caught a glimpse of the tears and laughter.
As we walked through Eastern Market for portraits, people driving by stopped to wave, cheer, and take pictures. Someone even raised a glass of champagne from their car. It was one of those moments that reminded me how weddings have a way of pulling everyone in—even strangers.
If you’re planning a small wedding and want it to feel honest, warm, and full of character, Amanda and Chris’s day is proof that less really can be more.
