Sometimes, it’s the quiet moments that truly speak volumes. This thought comes to mind when I think about Katie and Tommy’s wedding. Katie’s story gave me pause from the start: she and Tommy, living in D.C., decided to return to Detroit to get married, bringing her birth mother and brother from Korea to share in the celebration. I knew from our first chat that this was a party I wouldn’t want to miss.
While Katie’s dress was amazing and the florals at the Colony Club were exquisite, the real beauty was in the people celebrating with them. There’s one particular photo that reminds me why I love photographing weddings so much. It’s a simple shot of Katie getting ready, with her birth mother helping, while her mother looks on. That moment, that memory, isn’t something you can put a price on. It’s those priceless connections that make a wedding day truly shine.
