Weddings

Tommy + Katie

“The whole world is an art gallery when you’re mindful. There are beautiful things everywhere–and they’re free.”

-Charles Tart

Sitting down to write these posts can be daunting. So much, I want you to get to know me just a little while you read all about the events of a beautiful wedding. I get writer’s block, and it’s so disappointing since wedding days are all so full of life!  I have been reading a lot lately which makes writing a little more fun, but tonight was hard.  When I first talked to Katie and heard her story, I got quite a lump in my throat.  She and Tommy live in the DC area but were coming back to Detroit to get married, and she was bringing her birth mother and brother here from Korea to join in the festivities.  I know from the moment we chatted that I wouldn’t want to leave the party.  So, yes, Katie’s dress was amazing.  And they have some of the most exquisite florals even seen at the Colony Club, but the “beautiful things….”well, they are all in the people who celebrate with you.

There is a photo that drove home the reason that I can’t help but photograph weddings.  And this photo might not seem like something that we would pin over pinterest or save on a board.  But as Katie was getting ready, I snapped a photo of her with her birth mother being dressed by her mother.  And that moment, that memory, well, it’s one of those that can’t be valued by money.
